How Does an Electrostatic Sticker Work?
The name suggests pure static electricity, but the real mechanism is a bit more physical than that. Pressing a smooth PET film against smooth glass pushes out the thin layer of air between the two surfaces, creating a light vacuum that behaves a lot like a suction cup. A weak electrostatic charge, picked up during manufacturing and from friction against the glass, adds a bit more pull on top of that.

For a dashcam mount, that lighter hold is rarely a problem in practice. Dashcams and their brackets weigh very little, so the film's grip is more than enough to keep the camera steady over speed bumps and hard braking. How to Apply an Electrostatic Sticker to Your Windscreen
